Executive Summary-Supplementary Report

Executive Summary

This supplementary report shares the raw data and additional data analysis that support the FutureGrasp report, Artificial Intelligence: An Overview of State Initiatives. That main report provides a State-by-State analysis of artificial intelligence (AI) national plans and strategies available up to early June 2019. Those interested in a deeper dive into the origins and allocations of State AI funding will find here further information not available in the main report, specifically:
  • A complete list of States with AI national plans or strategies or interest in them, as expressed by an active working group, framing plan, or public announcement.
  • Raw data (absolute values in original currencies with conversions to US $) and graphics of: AI funding by State, with values in both gross and annual investments; Breakdowns of AI funds allocated by AI sector (research, talent / education, industrial strategy, ethics / legal implications, infrastructure, AI in government, and data); Totals of AI investments by each respective investing State
  • Raw data and graphic of State AI investments from 2015 to 2025 by State. This analysis is especially valuable as it shows how numerous States have multi-year AI budget allocations, as well as the highs and lows of AI State funding over time.
Future data acquisition and analysis will be needed to maintain the contemporary nature of these databases and their analysis. Readers are invited to contact the author toward that end.
